Hematite is an Iron rich ore which in ancient times was used to stop haemorrhages (The name derives from the Greek haima = blood).

In more recent times Hematite has been used in jewellery.  With a 5.5-6.5 hardness that allows for a beautiful polish, this stone makes magnificent beads that compliment many complexions.
