South Sea Pearl & Iolite Pendant
Product Code SKU2005. 11.9mm 18ct Yellow Gold South Sea Pearl Pendant with a feature Iolite Brilliant cut. South Sea Pearls come from pearl farms in tropical waters in the southern hemisphere. Generally the pearls grown in this area range in size from 9mm to 18mm (sometimes larger) The culturing of pearls has been active in Australia since the 1950's. The process for culturing pearls requires a technician to implant a seed in the animal which then is coated in a secreted nacre by the animal. This is an ongoing process over a number of years. The depth of this nacre is what gives the South Sea Pearl its world renowned lustre. You will find a colour variation which can be a sign of the water temperature and the food source for the animal in any particular area. Iolite is sometimes called water Sapphire due to its strong blue violet colour. This stone can be found near Alice Springs and is a favourite for many fossickers. This lovely stone will remind you of the sea with its beautiful colour. Beautifully presented on a display chain and gift boxed.
